BEAUTY: My Shadow Self

Recycled-Novelty-Beauty-Street-Style-Rituel-de-Fille-makeup-Shadow-Self-Forbidden-Lipstick-by-Whitney-Leigh-Young-6Makeup can do many things.

It can make you feel wholesome and sweet, or dark and edgy. It can liberate you, empower you, and seduce those around you. It’s fascinating how different colors — and combinations of colors — can alter your persona, and create characters, all of whom you genuinely identify with. Makeup straddles the line of reality and pretend. Makeup is magic.

Rituel de Fille is a line of beauty products — including lipstick, eyeshadow, and blush — that has “bewitched me body and soul.” The brand’s rhetoric is refreshingly clever — having everything to do with the enchanting, the spellbinding, and the unlikely (but genius) marriage between natural ingredients and not-so-natural pigments (purple, black, metallic, etc.). And it totally works.

Rituel de Fille is available at Nasty Gal and Urban Outfitters. Read on for a super exciting giveaway!

Light lips are my thang. Of course, I was super jazzed to try out Rituel de Fille’s Forbidden Lipstick in Hex, a gorgeous lavender shade. I kept the whole look light, but for a night out on the town, I would definitely add a smokey eye using RDF’s Ash and Ember Eye Soot in Serpent de Mer.

At first glance, Blackthorn appears to be SUPER dark. Like, black dark. Which is why you can’t judge a book by its cover. As is evidenced by the photos, it’s actually a lovely burgundy that is perfect for a seductive date night look (or a day of tromping through the snow, like I did)! Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Disclaimer: I’m not a black lipstick kind of gal. As a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white chick, it makes me look like a 16-year-old having a Twilight identity crisis. So naturally, when I pulled out the Shadow Self shade to try on, I was skeptical. But, as I applied the color, I noticed that: A) It’s not completely black — there’s a metallic, blue-ish hue to it that offsets the darkness, and B) I actually really dig it. As I started shooting the photos, I felt myself almost instantly transform into someone else; a shadow self. I felt mysterious, dangerous, fierce, and vampy.

It was pretty dope.

Side Note: Can I be on The Vampire Diaries now?
